Law Offices of Virginia L. Landry, Inc. is proud to announce that founding attorney Virginia L. Landry received the Edward Kuwatch Lifetime Achievement Award, the California DUI Lawyers Association's highest honor, at the Association's 2026 Annual Kuwatch Conference in Monterey. CDLA President Richard Middlebrook presented the award during Saturday's Awards Luncheon, August 8.

CDLA reserves this honor for an attorney whose work has shaped the practice of DUI defense across California over the long term. Ms. Landry has spent thirty-eight years focused entirely on DUI defense, has been a member of CDLA for four decades and served on its Board of Directors for 20 years, and her national standing with the National College for DUI Defense made her a strong fit for an award built around sustained impact on the field.

A Career Built Entirely Around DUI Defense

Ms. Landry founded her practice in Orange County in 1989. Her credentials include:

  • Board Certification in DUI Defense Law from the National College for DUI Defense, held by only four women attorneys nationwide
  • Service as the first female Dean of the National College for DUI Defense in the organization's 30-year history
  • A current seat on CDLA's Board of Directors
  • Certification as an instructor in DWI detection and standardized field sobriety testing, training attorneys and judges

About the Kuwatch Award

The award is named for CDLA founder Edward "Fast Eddie" Kuwatch, who built the organization in 1989 and passed away in 2005. CDLA presents it each year to a DUI defense attorney the board recognizes for:

  • Decades of active contribution to the organization's growth and advocacy work
  • A career-long record of representing clients facing DUI and DUID charges
  • Mentorship of other attorneys through workshops, publications, and training

We congratulate Virginia on this recognition from her peers across the state. Her seat on CDLA's board and her work with NCDD keep our team close to how DUI law, DMV administrative hearings, and forensic science challenges continue to develop across California.
