Labor Day 2018 DUI in Orange County

On the first Monday in September, Americans everywhere pay tribute to all of the contributions of our great nation’s workforce. We call this “Labor Day” and in 1894, it officially became a federal holiday.

Labor Day symbolizes more than just being a hard worker, it symbolizes the end of summer. It means the children are back in school, and for many Americans, it’s a great excuse to celebrate with backyard barbeques, parades, and parties where plenty of alcohol will be served.

Each year, certain holidays mean there will be an increase in drunk driving. That’s natural considering the fact that traditionally, on national holidays alcohol is usually flowing freely as people relax and enjoy friends and family. Such holidays include Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s.

Before local police departments and the California Highway Patrol gear up for the flood of DUI arrests between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, they prepare for one more final surge of DUIs over Labor Day weekend. This year, the holiday weekend starts on Friday, August 31st, and runs through the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 4th.

Over the Labor Day period, motorists should be aware of extra DUI Saturation Patrols that will be deployed throughout Orange County. During this three-day period, generally starting Friday evening and running shortly past 12 or 1am on Tuesday, all of the traffic and patrol officers will be focusing their efforts on arresting drunk and drugged drivers during their regularly scheduled shifts.

Orange County drivers can expect there to be DUI checkpoints, a multi-agency DUI Task Force, and local roving DUI patrols to be on the lookout for DUI drivers countywide during their Labor Day campaign.
