Holidays, Defensive Driving & DUI

Christmas may be over but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s still crazy outside, very crazy. That’s because thousands of shoppers will be out flocking to the local malls and outdoor shopping centers trying to hit the after-Christmas sales and return all the gifts that were duplicates, the wrong size, or just not wanted.

If you live in Orange County, you can bet that the traffic around the Irvine Spectrum, Fashion Island, Laguna Hills Mall, Crown Valley Mall, and South Coast Plaza is going to be insane. But shoppers aren’t your only concern. With the increased stress that comes with buying gifts, entertaining and dealing with relatives, not to mention all of the holiday celebrations – the alcohol will be flowing so you better watch out for drunk drivers amid all of the holiday madness!

Holiday Season Calls for Defensive Driving

Each year, from December 1st through January 2nd, holiday shopping and travel test our limits on the roads, and the congestion gets worse as we inch closer to Christmas. From stressed-out shoppers to drunk drivers who just left their company’s holiday party, we must step-up our defensive driving until after the New Year’s parties are wrapped up and the partygoers are recovered from their hangovers and back to work.

Through the month of December and the first week of January, keep a safe travelling distance between your car and the vehicle in front of you and stay away from angry motorists. Be alert for people who are texting while driving (especially teenagers) and watch out for impaired drivers.

Unsafe driving behaviors to avoid during the holiday rush:

  • Speeding
  • Road rage
  • Aggressive driving
  • Violating the right of way
  • Blowing through stop signs
  • Illegally passing
  • Following too closely
  • Turning improperly

To ensure that you enjoy this holiday accident and DUI-free, drive defensively and watch out for drunk drivers. If you’re going to drink, don’t forget to stay off the roads. But, if you do end up getting arrested for DUI this holiday season, reach out to the Law Offices of Virginia L. Landry, Inc. for a hard-hitting DUI defense!
