Uber Driver Arrested on Super Bowl Sunday

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – Another Uber driver was arrested for driving under the influence, and the latest story comes from Simi Valley, which is in the Greater Los Angeles Area.

According to the police, an Uber driver was arrested for DUI shortly after he finished watching the Super Bowl 50 at a bar, reported CBS Los Angeles.

While an officer was on patrol Sunday evening, he noticed a car slow down as it was approaching a green light. The officer observed that the car was missing a front license plate, so the officer pulled the driver over.

Simi Valley Police Department said that the driver was identified as R. Wolf, 46. The police said that Wolfe was impaired and “unaware of his physical location…and was relying on his GPS to direct him where to go.”

During the traffic stop, Wolfe told the officer that he was on his way to go and pick up another fare.

Wolfe claimed to be earning some extra money after watching the Super Bowl at a local bar, and he reportedly said that he had already driven two or three fares in Simi Valley, a police official told reporters.

Wolfe submitted to a chemical test, which revealed that is blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was .25%, well above the .08% legal limit.

The Uber driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into the Ventura County Jail.

Staying Safe When Using Uber or Lyft

Ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft can be great for keeping drunk drivers off the roads, but unfortunately there have been a string of cases lately where Uber drivers have been arrested for DUI while on the clock.

If you call Uber, Lyft, or even a cab, we suggest talking to the driver before riding with him or her and seeing if you smell alcohol on the driver’s breath, or if they seem to be otherwise impaired, for example, slurring their words.

Law enforcement officials are advising people that if they do smell alcohol or if they suspect that the driver is impaired, to contact the police right away.
