The World Health Organization’s Global Status Report on Road Safety for 2015 has revealed some interesting statistics about which countries are the most dangerous when it comes to drunk driving. The report found that South Africa leads the world in drunk driving fatalities, with 25.1 deaths per every 100,000 people involved in drunk driving accidents each year. In fact, nearly 60 percent of fatalities on South Africa’s roads can be attributed to alcohol.
Canada comes in second, with 34 percent of traffic deaths attributable to alcohol consumption, followed by the United States at 31 percent. For developed nations, these statistics are very high as compared with countries like the United Kingdom and Germany, with the rate of fatalities at 16 percent a 9 percent, respectively. Of course, there are other factors that may be involved in these fatalities, including vehicle safety, road maintenance, traffic conditions, seat belt usage, and more.
