Alleged DUI Driver Crashes into Georgia Deputy

A Georgia deputy was injured when an allegedly drunk driver slammed into the back of his patrol car late in the evening. The deputy was in his car on the inside lane with lights on, protecting a work crew that was working on the road that evening. The driver slammed into his car, leaving the officer with a concussion and a four inch gash to the head.

Underage Driver Accused of Drunk Driving

The driver involved with the collision was a nineteen year old male who has previously been convicted of DUI. He was not injured but was charged with a DUI after drugs and drug paraphernalia were found in his car. He claimed to have been looking at his phone and changing the radio station when he collided with the deputy.

The young driver was also charged with:

  • Driving with a suspended license
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Failure to use due care

The driver is facing up to one year in jail, a $600 to $1,000 fine, a three year license suspension, and the installation of an ignition interlock device on his vehicle.
