Orange County Authorities Arrest More Than 200 Motorists for DUI Over Fourth of July Weekend

We've been covering the increased efforts of authorities to enforce driving under the influence (DUI) laws over the Fourth of July Holiday, and we've shared just how far they went to step up patrols and increase the number of DUI checkpoints throughout the region. Because this is an important time of year for law enforcement agencies, they publicly release the success of their anti-DUI campaigns. This year, officers throughout Orange County made a substantial amount of DUI arrests.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Department, the 'Avoid the 38' anti-DUI effort joined 38 Orange County law enforcement agencies to crack down on impaired driving during the holiday weekend. Authorities have officially reported that from 12:01 am on Thursday, July 3 to Midnight on Sunday, July 6, officers arrested a total of 214 motorists for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Officers throughout the County reported fewer arrests than last year (247), but that numbers are provisional, as some agencies have not yet reported. They also announced that there were no alcohol-related traffic fatalities during the four-day campaign. The next 'Avoid the 38' anti-DUI effort is being planned for Labor Day Weekend.
