Last Monday, August 18th, deputies from the Orange County Sheriff's Department conducted a task force sweep to apprehend local residents with outstanding arrest warrants for driving under the influence. During the sweep, deputies served warrants and arrested eight suspects. The suspects either failed to show up for a court date or violated terms of their probation stemming from a DUI case.
Officials reported the results of the Task Force sweep to remind Orange County residents that authorities are increasing their focus on impaired driving this month. In a News Release issued last week, officials stated that these sweeps and increased DUI enforcement campaigns are an important measure for reducing alcohol-related accidents, injuries, and deaths.
The DUI warrant sweep comes during a larger Anti-DUI campaign set from August 15th through September 1st. The campaign ends with Labor Day weekend, which has become a weekend with some of the highest rates of DUI accidents and arrests.
As the week continues leading up to Labor Day weekend, officials from the Avoid the 38 Task Force will be conducting checkpoints and increased saturation patrols. Officials have so far announced:
- Five DUI & Driver's License Checkpoints
- Two Multi-Agency Checkpoints
- Nine DUI Saturation Patrols
- Two DUI Warrant / Probation Violation Sweeps
Officials are reminding motorists of the increased DUI enforcement efforts to keep local roads and highways safe throughout the week and through Labor Day weekend. Officials are also reminding anyone who plans on celebrating the end of summer to do so responsibly and to plan for a ride if they plan on drinking.
