Seven Injured during DUI Accident Caused by Mother with Child in Car

News reports indicate that seven people were injured in a car accident last weekend caused by a drunk driver. Among those were two children who were sent to area hospitals with serious injuries. The police report for the accident shows that the suspect, 26-year-old D.V.L., was heading northbound when she drifted over center lines. She drove directly into the paths of a minivan and a passenger vehicle while drifting. D.V.L. had her 6-year-old son with her at the time and he reportedly sustained minor injuries and is currently staying with a relative. The driver of the minivan sustained major injuries, along with several other passengers in the vehicle.

When police arrived at the scene, the intoxicated driver had already refused medical treatment. Based on their investigation, police charged D.V.L. with child endangerment and felony DUI causing injuries. She is currently being held at a Santa Cruz County jail. Police have not released the details of her breathalyzer exam at this time. Were you arrested because police believed you caused a DUI accident?
