Several Homes without Power Following DUI Accident

Several businesses and homes were without power last week thanks to a drunk driver. The suspect is lucky to be alive after crashing full speed into a power pole in Costa Mesa, California. When police arrived on the scene of the accident, the driver was conscious, but in serious pain. It was easy for officers to determine that he was under the influence of alcohol. Based on a quick evaluation of the scene, police believe that he simply lost control of his SUV and crashed into the power pole. The driver, who remains unnamed, reportedly suffered multiple broken bones.

After he was treated at a local hospital, the young man was charged with DUI. Luckily nobody else was involved in the single-car accident. The local electric company believes that at least 1,573 customers were without power for several hours as a result of the DUI accident. Just under 300 of those customers were still without power several days later.
