Underage Driver Charged with Vehicular Manslaughter

Although it has taken nearly three months to do so, the California Highway Patrol has filed official charges against a young driver. The woman has been accused of killing R.M., 23, in a DUI accident in January. The suspect, then 19-year-old B.S., was taken into custody immediately after the drunk driving crash took place as she was found behind the wheel of the vehicle that struck and killed the victim. Although any amount of alcohol in her system would have made her intoxicated, police conducted field sobriety tests on the young driver which she failed.

When the bloodwork was returned a month later, it did confirm the officer's suspicion that she was intoxicated. The exact number, however, has not been released to the public. This week the district attorney's office formally charged B.S. with gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. She is due back in court early next month.
