Man May Get Months in Jail for DUI Accident

After spending his life protecting people, a fire department captain will now be spending some time behind bars for a serious DUI accident.

On April 1st of this year, the captain was arrested for felony DUI and hit-and-run with injury. Not only was he drinking and driving, but he accidentally struck a bicyclist and then drove away. The captain had been drinking at a local bar all evening when he then decided to drive home. At some point during his trip home, he lost control of his vehicle and drove into the bike lane. That is when he struck the victim, a 47-year-old man, causing severe injuries.

Upon listening to both sides of the case, a judge found the captain guilty of the charges filed against him. In addition, he increased the severity of the sentence due to the captain's excessively high blood-alcohol content at the time of the accident. The captain will spend ninety days in jail for a diagnostic evaluation, after which he could spend anywhere from eight months to six years behind bars.
