Driver Gets 16 Years for DUI Accident

One man knew that he should not get behind the wheel but he did anyway. What happened proved to be a fatal mistake that would affect his life forever.

Last Easter Sunday, a 44-year-old man was so intoxicated that he vomited on himself and passed out while operating a car. At that time, he told his ex-wife that he probably should not be driving, but he did anyway.

Just a few hours later he caused a DUI accident that took the life of a 27-year-old father. Police arrived on the scene of the accident to learn that the intoxicated driver had drifted over into another lane and slammed into the SUV carrying the man, who was sleeping in the back seat, as well as his wife, daughter and son.

While the 5-year-old boy did sustain some injuries, the wife and daughter were lucky to escape unscathed. As for the father, he was declared dead at the scene. The driver now faces up to 16 years behind bars for fleeing the scene of an accident and involuntary manslaughter.
