Officers in Orange County were kept busy over the Memorial Day weekend, netting 148 DUI arrests.
According to Deputy Wayne Howard, saturation patrols and checkpoints were responsible for cleaning up the streets of drunk drivers. Since some agencies have yet to release their reports from that weekend, the numbers are expected to be slightly higher. However, this figure is already higher than that of last year, when officers made 139 DUI arrests.
This campaign, also referred to as 'Avoid the 38,' is a joint effort between the local police departments, the California Highway Patrol and the Sheriff"s Department.
