Driver Charged with Felony DUI Following Serious Collision

After causing the head-on wreck that killed a high school senior and injured several more students, the driver has been denied bail on the felony DUI charges.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Michael Blake White, 27, has been charged with three counts of felony DUI involving great bodily injury, one count of felony DUI involving death and one count of driving under suspension. Not escaping injury himself, White sustained an injured ankle and fractured eight ribs.

The young man was driving home after working the third shift when the accident occurred. Responding troopers noted that his speech was slurred and he appeared disoriented. However, he denied having had anything to drink and blamed it on methadone. Trooper Corey Mason added that, "he appeared to be under the influence of some type of either medication or something else."
