Man Hits 5 Year Old While Under the Influence

This week, a man was arrested for driving under the influence and operating without a valid license after he seriously injured a five-year-old child that was walking in Woodland Saturday evening.

According to Woodland police officers, the accident took place on the 700 block of East Street at approximately 6:20 PM.  When authorities arrived at the scene, they found a semi-conscious child who had to be carried inside a nearby home. Emergency crews were dispatched to treat the child's injuries.

Medical crews originally requested an air ambulance to take the victim to U.C. Davis Trauma Center in Sacramento, but no air ambulance was available.  The victim had to be transported by ambulance to get medical treatment and his injuries were reported as being serious.

The driver of the vehicle was later identified as 20-year-old Francisco Pinon-Martinez.  He was arrested on charges of DUI and being an unlicensed driver.
