SEATTLE – According to pageant officials, Miss Washington USA Stormy
Keffeler resigned her title after it was discovered that the beautiful
brunette failed to disclose her DUI conviction, ABC 7 News reported.
Winning Miss Washington USA 2016 was probably her dream come true, but
this tragic story proves that a DUI can ruin some careers and even a beauty
queen’s crowning achievement.
Keffeler said that for days she told people that they could take her title
off her “cold dead body,” because she was ready to fight to
the end. But after she saw her family and met with the pageant production
company, she realized that it would be selfish to continue on with it.
In April 2015, Keffeler was pulled over as she was driving on two flat
tires. According to the police report, her eyes were droopy and bloodshot,
and she was slurring her words.
On the pageant paperwork, it asked her if she was ever convicted of a felony,
according to Keffeler. When she contacted her attorney, he explained that her
DUI was a misdemeanor, so she decided not to mention the DUI.
Now, her DUI conviction has become scandalous in the pageant world.
Her reputation already tainted by the media circus surrounding the bizarre
stabbing of Major League Soccer player Marco Pappa, who was with Keffeler
at the time, now the news of the DUI has likely killed her pageant career
In the case where Pappa was found stabbed in the stomach, the police have
not filed charges against anyone yet, but investigators are still trying
to get down to the bottom of it. When asked, Keffeler has refused to comment
about the case.
In the meantime, Keffeler insists that she’s a “changed person,”
and that she’s willing to prove it. She added that it’s hard
when your dream comes crashing down, so she’s hopeful that she’ll
still be able to change the world on her own.
What will become of the 2016 title? Keffeler’s first-runner up, Kelsey
Schmidt will be assuming the Miss Washington USA title and she’ll
be representing Washington at this year’s USA event.
