Does your work go all-out for its company Christmas party? If so, then
it’s the party that employees look forward to all year. Between
the good food, the dazzle, everyone dressing up, and of course, the open
bar, you’re ready for a good time. After all, you’ve all worked
hard this year and it’s time for everybody at the office to celebrate!
Nothing ruins a night of fun at a company Christmas or “holiday”
party like a
DUI. On the Monday after the party, everybody’s talking about you around
the Keurig, IMs are flying, and it’s downright embarrassing.
Each year, company Christmas parties generate DUIs. If you logged in extra
hours to meet your year-end goals and get a bonus, well, it can all go
down the drain with a DUI.
Holiday Saturation Patrols
Between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve, the number of drunk drivers
on the roads increase significantly, and law enforcement knows it. To
combat drunk driving during the holidays, police departments everywhere
step up their DUI enforcement efforts.
Each year, law enforcement agencies receive financial grants to increase
DUI saturation patrols and man checkpoints, and LA and Orange counties
are no exception. This means that local police departments get funding
to pay for extra officers targeting drunk drivers.
While grants are awarded periodically throughout the year, they are always
awarded during the peak Christmas party season, which this year is between
Friday, Dec. 11th and Sunday, Dec. 27th.
Police departments usually announce on the Internet when they’re
conducting DUI saturation patrols and checkpoints. Regardless, all Orange
County residents should be warned that there will be more saturation patrols
in the upcoming weeks, especially around hotels, restaurants and bars.
The best way to avoid a DUI after a work Christmas party is to either get
a hotel room (if the party is in a hotel), or call Uber, Lyft, or a cab.
Even if the rates are increased due to the holiday, it’s a lot cheaper
than paying for a DUI!
