On June 5, 2010, attorney Virginia Landry spoke at a seminar held at the Kona Kai hotel in San Diego for the California Public Defender's Association.  Virginia engaged the audience with the topic titled "New Development Strategies for DMV hearings and License Issues."  Virginia discussed juvenile driver violations, under 21 driver violations, commercial driver's license privileges and out of state licensed drivers.  She also discussed the two aspects involved when one is arrested for a DUI:  the administrative hearing with the DMV and the criminal case with the court.  Virginia Landry is committed to providing educational information concerning the DMV and court issues.

On May 20, 2010 and April 28, 2010, attorneys from the Law Offices of Virginia Landry were involved and spoke to high school students at Canyon High School in Anaheim and Rossier Park High School in Buena Park, respectively.  This program, called Choices and Consequences, is a DUI prevention program for high school students headed by Judge Kimberly Menninger from the Orange County Superior Court.  The purpose of this program is to review the consequences of making risky choices and to help students realize the effects that their decision can have by seeing it happen in front of their eyes in real life with real life cases.  An actual sentencing was conducted in front of the student body with the District Attorney, Defense Attorney, the Defendants and the Judge conducting formal sentencing.

For the second year, Attorney Virginia Landry will be speaking to high school students in  Orange County, California as part of “Real DUI Court in Schools” a program aimed at teenagers.  The Choices and Consequences School Program is a DUI prevention program funded through a grant received through the California Administrative Office of the Courts, headed by Judge Kimberly Menninger.  An actual sentencing will be conducted in front of the student assembly with the District Attorney, Defense Attorney, the Defendant and the Judge conducting formal sentencing.  Each participant will be able to share their experiences with the assembly and counselors and other guest speakers will participate in the visual presentation.  The dangers of alcohol, drugs and distracted driving among young adults is the primary focus. 

On February 12, 2009, Attorney Virginia Landry was a guest lecturer at Chapman Law School during their annual Wellness Week focusing on How to Avoid a DUI.   As a specialist concerning Driving Under the Influence allegations in Orange County, California , DUI   Attorney Virginia Landry gave the law students a practical overview of   DUI investigation from a law enforcement perspective.   The investigation process included Phase One: The Vehicle in Motion, where the officer makes a determination to detain a driver; Phase Two:   Personal Contact, where the officer is looking for a way to get the driver out of the car for further investigation; Phase Three: Pre-Arrest Screening which is where the hand-eye-gait coordination tests are conducted along with an interview; and Phase Four: Chemical Testing, where determinations of what substances and how much are in the person’s system are done by blood, breath or urine testing.   A practical demonstration of Standardized Field Sobriety Testing was given with a student volunteer

On February 21, 2009, Attorney Virginia Landry spoke for the tenth year at the Bridging the Gap program sponsored by the Orange County Bar Association at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana, California.   As a recognized expert in Driving Under the Influence cases, Virginia spoke about the issues that new attorneys would have in accurately advising their clients about a Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs and the related Department of Motor Vehicles Administrative Per Se hearing process.   Practical tips were given to assist attorneys who would be representing persons accused, as well as a working guideline for attorneys not working directly with criminal defense to evaluate and refer to specialists.   A brief overview of other DMV hearings was also provided, including Physical and Mental Examinations, Negligent Operator Hearings, Fatality Cases and Fraud Evaluations.   The Bridging the Gap Program is held in February and July each year and is free to new California attorneys.
