In addition to the 5 arrests, the OC Register reported that eight citations were issued and two vehicles were impounded for 30 days.

In total, 2,237 cars went through the checkpoint, and police screened 479 drivers.

3 Arrested at Costa Mesa Checkpoint
Posted By Law Offices of Virginia L. Landry

Three people were arrested at a Costa Mesa checkpoint over the week on suspicion of drunk driving.

Of the 318 vehicles screened at the checkpoint, three people were arrested for DUI, six vehicles were impounded, and nine citations were issued.

There has been an increase in sobriety checkpoints throughout Orange County, in large part due to grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety. Costa Mesa police say they have no plans to ease up on their DUI enforcement efforts any time soon. Sgt. David Makiyama, a spokesperson for the Costa Mesa Police Department, said the department will continue to conduct sobriety checkpoints throughout the year.

Makiyama said the goal of the checkpoints is to remove impaired drivers from the road so that they cannot harm themselves or anyone else, and spread awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The Law Offices of Virginia L. Landry has extensive DUI defense experience, and can help if you’ve been arrested for drunk driving at a checkpoint. To schedule a consultation with an Orange County DUI attorney at the office to discuss your case, please call (877) DUI-QUEEN!
