DUI Suspect Crashes into Backyard, Kills Mother and Toddler

On Saturday, it was a gruesome scene that looked a lot like the aftermath of Paul Walker’s (star of The Fast and the Furious) fatal accident. A vehicle was in a million pieces, debris was everywhere, and two, a 40-year-old mother and her 14-month-old daughter were dead.

It happened in Livermore, California at around 6:50 p.m. A 35-year-old Livermore man was driving eastbound on Murrieta Boulevard on Saturday evening when he lost control of his vehicle. He drove straight into a backyard of an apartment complex in the 900 block of Murrieta Boulevard, police said.

B. Jones crashed into the back of the apartment building, hitting a 40-year-old woman and her 14-month-old daughter as they were in their backyard, said the police. The pair died at the scene.

Woman & Three Children Struck in Backyard Accident

Two boys, ages 6 and 7 were also struck in the accident; they were transported to local hospitals and are reportedly in stable condition.

A. Nelson, 27, one of the neighbors at the apartment complex said that she was outside of her apartment barbequing when she heard a really loud noise that sounded like thunder.

Nelson said that she immediately grabbed her two-year-old daughter and ran inside her apartment. When she looked over her fence, she saw a bumper and debris in millions of pieces. She said it looked like a horror movie.

She said that after that, she heard a jumble of terrifying sights and sounds, recalling the incident.

A woman screamed, “There’s a baby!” She heard a man, who she believes was the father, pounding on the ground in anguish. She said a little boy was laying on the grass having difficulty breathing. He was later transported to the hospital by ambulance.

The driver was laying on the grass next to the vehicle. He told Nelson that he was driving, and that he lived there for seven years.

The driver told Nelson that he didn’t know them (the victims) by name, but that he would say hello. He went on to tell her that he would see them outside with their dog and kids.

B. Jones, of Livermore, Calif. is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicle manslaughter while intoxicated.
