14-Year Old Killed in Suspected DUI Crash in Huntington Beach

On Thursday night, June 25, 2015, a 14-year-old boy from Trabuco Canyon was killed in an accident with suspected drunk driver in Huntington Beach.

E. McEnally, 14, was in a pickup with his brother and cousin – Orange County prep athletes – when their vehicle was struck by a man who is suspected of driving under the influence.

McEnally of Trabuco Canyon was killed, his brother J. McEnally, 18, and cousin, T. Murray, 18, of Huntington Beach were injured in the crash, according to the Orange County Register.

The DUI suspect, J. Xahuentit Palacios, 39, of Santa Ana was driving a Nissan Frontier southbound on Newland Street when he collided with the silver 2004 Toyota Tacoma, said the police. Police records indicate that Palacios was arrested on suspicion of:

When Palacios’ Frontier collided with the Tacoma, it caused the Tacoma to crash into a light pole, and the Frontier to crash into a 2006 GMC Yukon, which according to police, was stopped on Adams Avenue in the westbound lanes.

HB Fire Dept. Use Heavy-Duty Rescue Equipment

After the crash, E. McEnally was trapped inside the Tacoma and had to be rescued by the Huntington Beach Fire Department, who had to use heavy-duty rescue equipment to get him out.

McEnally was transported to Huntington Beach Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

McEnally’s cousin was driving the Tacoma, and his brother was the other passenger. His brother and cousin were injured in the crash, but their injuries were not life-threatening.

J. McEnally was treated at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and released, and Murray was treated at Orange County Global Medical Center and released, said the brothers’ uncle, C. Moore of Huntington Beach.

E. McEnally, who died in the crash was a student at Rancho Santa Margarita Intermediate School; he played goalie for a local soccer team.

According to Moore, McEnally’s death and his brother’s and cousin’s injuries have been devastating. He said that they are all in tremendous shock and trying to deal with it.

J. McEnally is a senior at Trabuco Hills High School – there he plays football and lacrosse.

Murray attended Huntington Beach High School, where he was the starting catcher for the school’s baseball team this past season. He was named to the Register’s All-Orange County second team earlier this month.
