3-Year-Old Girl Dies in Crash: Mom Faces DUI Charges

A mother was driving in El Cajon over the weekend with her three young children in tow. The mother crashed into a pole, killing her three-year-old daughter and seriously injuring her other two children.

B. Teague, 31, of San Diego was in jail on Monday on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and felony gross vehicular manslaughter.

El Cajon police believe that she may have fallen asleep at the wheel just moments before driving her silver Hyundai Accent into a power pole off Broadway, between First and Second Streets at 9:43 pm on Saturday.

Teague’s children were ages 2, 3, and 10; all three were transported to Children’s Hospital after the crash.

Immediately after the accident, the 10-year-old boy emerged from the vehicle with glass in his eye and blood all over his face, seeking help from neighbors. The boy said that he kept asking his mother not to drive since she was falling asleep.

According to Lt. R. Soulard, Teague’s 3-year-old daughter died as a result of her injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. The other two children were seriously hurt, however, they did not have life-threatening injuries.

The driver was visibly upset after the accident and crying. She complained of pain and was transported to Sharp Hospital.

Young Mother Faces Criminal Charges

After being briefly hospitalized, Teague was arrested and booked into Las Colinas Women’s Detention Facility on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, driving while under the influence of drugs, felony child endangerment, and gross vehicular manslaughter.

Soulard said that she was also cited for driving on a suspended license.

On Easter Sunday, some neighbors created a small memorial at the location of the accident on behalf of the little girl who lost her life. They placed cards, a flower bouquet, and balloons for the toddler who wasn’t going to celebrate Easter.

The mother is scheduled to be arraigned on April 8.
