4 Things We Can Learn from Justin Bieber's DUI

Last Thursday, January 23, Justin Bieber was arrested and charged with drunk driving, resisting arrest and driving without a valid license after he was stopped by Miami police around 4am. Bieber was allegedly driving a rented yellow Lamborghini and racing one of his friends going 55-60mph in a 30mph zone. Like most celebrity DUI arrests, we want to avoid just about everything that was done here.

Here's what you shouldn't do if you're pulled over under suspicion of drunk driving:

  1. Be hostile with the police officer. The police officer that pulled Bieber over stated that Bieber was incredibly hostile and using profanities right from the get-go. If you are pulled over by law enforcement, be polite and only speak when spoken to.
  2. Admit to consuming alcohol and/or drug use. According to reports, Bieber openly admitted to consuming some alcohol and taking prescription drugs prior to his arrest. If you're pulled over by law enforcement, arrested and even after you are charged, do not admit any guilt.
  3. Don't cooperate with the police officer. Not only was Bieber rude to the police officer that pulled him over, he blatantly failed to cooperate with his requests. At this point, the police officer has already pulled you over and suspects you may have been drinking – it doesn't help your case to refuse to cooperate.
  4. Publicize your actions on social media. Bieber and the friend he was racing with on the night of his arrest reportedly took pictures and shared them on social media outlets such as Twitter. Making this information publicly available can be incriminating. Even the information that is not shared via social media but stored on your phone can be seized and searched by police with a warrant, as was the case in Bieber's egging vandalism case.
