Police in Los Angeles, California were taken on a short high-speed chase last week. When officers finally stopped the vehicle, they found a known criminal behind the wheel as well as a baby in the back seat. At the time police first spotted the vehicle, it was drifting across several lanes. The driver appeared to be intoxicated, prompting officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to pull it over. Rather than listen to the warning from police, however, the driver took off. During the pursuit officers learned that the man behind the wheel was likely to be a gang member.
It took a spike strip and PIT maneuver to finally stop the vehicle. News sources say that the arresting officers found a baby in the back seat and a female companion in the front. The driver was allegedly intoxicated and was arrested not only for DUI, but also for evading arrest and erratic driving. This is believed to be the first DUI on the suspect's record.
