It's not What you Drink, it's how Much you Drink!

Many people assume that some alcoholic beverages are more acceptable than others if you want to drink while driving. For example, if you want to sip on a beer before hopping behind the wheel, some would say that you will be okay. On the other hand, that same person might shun a few shots of whiskey, assuming that this will be more inhibiting. In actuality, alcohol is alcohol. The Standard Drinks Model, which was created with the help of the National Medical Association, says that a 12 ounce regular beer, 5 ounces of wine, and 1.5 ounces of spirits all contain about 0.6 fluid ounces of alcohol.

While some people might think that one beer is harmless compared to other, stronger liquors, this study shows that that couldn't be further from the truth. If you drink two beers, you have had twice as much alcohol as the person who has only had a half a glass of wine. This important information can help you and your friends to be safe drivers. Make sure that you drink responsibly before heading out on the road. The type of alcoholic beverage you had is not an excuse to drive, so don't treat it as one.

Remember that a few beers or a couple glasses of wine can be just as damaging as a shot or two of tequila. By being responsible and stopping well-before the limit, you will be able to arrive home safe. If you are a designated driver for your party, stay completely sober. You don't want to put yourself and others on the road in danger, simply because you made a poor decision. It's not worth it.
