Over One Thousand Drivers Arrested during NYE Holiday

Each year police officers in California work overtime during the New Year's Eve holidays. Their efforts help to reduce the number of drunk drivers on the roadways.

A press release was issued by the California Highway Patrol documenting the number of DUI arrests this year. According to the document, 1,181 drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence between Friday and Sunday. While this did represent an increase from the previous year, the number of drunk driving-caused accidents declined.

Last year 22 people lost their lives in drunk driving accidents. This year 18 people perished in alcohol-caused car accidents. Some of these people were the drivers and some were victims of the negligence of others. Most of those killed were not wearing their seat belts at the time of impact.
