The New York Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda was recently charged with driving under the influence after he was pulled over and subsequently arrested by the police. According to USA Today, Pineda was arrested at 2:35 a.m. on August 20th . Police suspected that he was not sober when they noticed that he was travelling well above the speed limit and weaving from side to side across lane markers on the highway. Pineda was in Tampa, where he was training with the Yankees as she recovers from a shoulder surgery.
The pitcher complied when the police tried to pull him over, and they reported that his eyes were glassed over and watery. The officer who filed the police officer claims that he could smell the distinct odor of an alcohol beverage coming from Pineda’s breath. The baseball player was asked to take a breath test, to which he complied. The machine showed that he had a blood alcohol level of .128. Considering that the national BAC limit is 0.08, Pineda was certainly considered illegally under the influence. Because of his offense, the MLB player was hauled off to jail. He was later released on a $500 bond. The Yankees general manager has not commented on the situation as of yet.
