Two Day DUI Sweep Scheduled

Each year several law enforcement agencies in Alameda County work together to crack down on drunk driving. The program created by the county consists of multiple DUI and license checkpoints being set up across the area.

Now that the summer is coming to an end, another two-day sweep was scheduled to catch the last of the revelers who are known for hitting the roads drunk. Over the past weekend, 10 drivers were taken into custody for drunk driving, one after causing a serious car accident. In total, 745 vehicles drove through the checkpoints last weekend, 158 of which were subjected to quick evaluations; of these, just five were given field sobriety tests.

Other motorists were arrested for driving violations, including driving without a license and driving with a suspended license. While some officers were conducting traffic checkpoints, others were given DUI-related arrest warrants and dispatched to certain areas of the city.
