Two Teens Involved in DUI Accident

Two teens were lucky not to lose their lives in a DUI accident, although they do remain seriously injured.

The two were riding a small Honda motorcycle when they collided with a Nissan Z in Live Oak last Saturday. The driver of the motorcycle was later arrested for on suspicion of drunken driving by the California Highway Patrol.

This accident occurred around 8:15 p.m. near the corner of Maciel Ave and Mattison Lane. A 13-year-old boy and a 19-year-old boy were riding a 1996 Honda 50cc bike without their lights on when they crashed with the larger bike carrying a 59-year-old man and woman.

The teens were later transported by helicopter to hospitals in Santa Clara County while the passengers of the Nissan bike were both uninjured.

The 19-year-old boy now faces charges of felony injury DUI with a blood alcohol content greater than .08, as well as felony child endangerment producing great bodily injury. In addition to that neither of the boys were wearing helmets and the bike itself was not registered for street use.
