Police in Palm Beach are turning to Skype to make arrests in DUI cases. Curious why?

To ensure that their DUI arrests turn into concrete DUI convictions, police are using Skype to accurately capture evidence closest to the exact time of the arrest. In particular the department is using it to obtain blood search warrants when they make DUI arrests.

Officials like Judge David Silverman and others are using Skype like a virtual courtroom to expedite the legal process. Officers are responsible for emailing documents to a judge who then holds a Skype conference to discuss whether a suspect's blood can be drawn. According to Cpl. Morgan, "If an officer can stay within his patrol zone instead of having to drive to the courthouse or the judge's house to obtain the warrant, it saves time and increases the officer's ability to protect the public."
