Palm Springs Hosts DUI Checkpoint

In an effort to cut down on DUI cases in their city, the Palm Springs Police Department will be conducting a driver's license/DUI checkpoint on Friday night. It will be in operation from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Since the past few years have seen numerous persons injured and killed as a result of drunk drivers, the checkpoints are a reliable way to catch these people and get them off the streets. It also brings heightened awareness to the community about the very real perils of driving under the influence. In just the past three years alone there have been 17 deaths and 100 injury crashes harming 156 local citizens.

These checkpoints are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
