Immigration Groups Happy About DUI Checkpoint Changes

Immigration groups are excited about the change to legislation at DUI checkpoints across the state but they argue that more still needs to be done.

Chief Charlie Beck met with members of the Southern California Immigration Coalition to discuss the change. In the past officers would impound cars of unlicensed and unregistered vehicles/drivers even if they had not been drinking. The new law states that someone who has been stopped and discovered to not have a license or registration, but who has not been drinking, can call a legal driver to take their car away, rather than have it impounded.

Beck is in support of this change and said it is "the right thing to do." However there is no word yet as to whether the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will enact a similar change in the future.
