DUI Accident Takes Multiple Lives

A crash on the Dan Ryan last week took the life of a baby and injured seven more.

According to the Chicago Police Department, Joannie Pittman, 47, was driving on the outbound Dan Ryan near 75th street when she hit a guard rail. The vehicle, which was carrying seven passengers, including a baby and three children, flipped and ejected the children. The car then went on to strike another car, but nobody in that vehicle was injured.

Officers quickly realized that this was a DUI accident when they spoke with Pittman directly after the crash. The baby, 11-month-old Everett Branlett, was pronounced dead later that day at the University of Chicago Comer Children"s Hospital. Branlett"s birthday was just a few days away, on June 6.

Pittman now faces charges of aggravated DUI and reckless homicide, which are both considered felonies in the state of Illinois.
