83 People Arrested for DUI in Orange County during 4th of July Weekend

While the Fourth of July weekend is often known for excessive partying and drinking, officials in Orange County were shocked to hear the statistics for DUI arrests this year.

According to the Sheriff's Department, 83 people were arrested on suspicion of DUI since 12:01 a.m. this past Friday. A total of 38 different law enforcement agencies came together to crack down on drunk driving in Orange County, putting up DUI checkpoints and issuing extra units to patrol known areas for DUI arrests. When compared to the same time last year, the number of arrests was up by 47 on Friday alone.

While there were no drinking-and-driving deaths this year, the Sheriff's department is serious about cracking down on intoxicated drivers. The department maintains that drinking and driving does lead to death and serious injury, no matter how many drinks you have had.
