California Announces DUI Law Changes

If you are a resident of California there are several new laws that were enacted after July 1 that you should be aware of.

Effective as of January 1, 2012, under AB 1601/Hill, those that have been repeat offenders of DUI charges for the third time will have a ten-year revocation of their license ordered. However there would be the chance of a reinstatement of their license after five years if certain qualifications are met.

The bill SB 949/Oropeza states that any matter that is covered by the California Vehicle Code cannot be enacted or enforced by local authorities. This is an attempt to make sure that traffic offenses are recorded properly by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
