Offender Gets Life Sentence for Vehicular Manslaughter

While a life sentence is generally not given for DUI crashes, a judge in California made an exception this week. The death of a young mother of three prompted a California judge to serve the offender with life sentence since he had special circumstances of his own.

This was not the first time that the defendant had been caught driving intoxicated. He had been arrested twice before on DUI charges but he continued to drive drunk around town. In August 2009 the mother was hit by the man when he blew through a stop sign. Although the accident happened over two years ago, the family is relieved to have the justice they had been hoping for.

Based on his past history of drunk driving, the judge was not lenient on the man. He was found to be guilty of vehicular manslaughter and was given life behind bars. While the family will never get their loved one back, they were relieved to hear the life sentence being given to the man responsible for taking her life.
