High School Senior Faces Underage DUI Charge
One graduating high school senior had his celebrations cut short when he was arrested for underage DUI.
According to a police department, the 18-year-old had been drinking when he got behind the wheel of his pickup truck. He crashed his vehicle and injured two of his passengers. The student was arrested for felony drunk driving. When he appeared before a judge this month, the teen pleaded no contest to one count of driving under the influence with special allegation. As a result, he was sentenced to three years in a juvenile detention center.
One of the passengers in the truck that day, another teenager, suffered traumatic injuries. As a result of the massive brain injuries sustained, the young boy has had to undergo multiple surgeries. He spent one month in an intensive care unit before being moved to a rehabilitation facility where he is now staying. Despite the nature of the accident, over 30 teachers wrote letters begging the judge to grant him 5-year probation instead.
