DUI Accident Proves Fatal

A DUI accident proved to be fatal earlier this week when a 42-year-old man lost his life in Walnut Park.

According to police reports, a 23-year-old man failed to yield to a stop sign on California Street, lost control of his vehicle and ran into the older man. The driver continued on down the street until he hit a brick wall. According to Officer Jennifer Connolly of the California Highway Patrol, the victim was just walking on the sidewalk when he was struck.  Emergency crews rushed to the scene, transporting him to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, while it is still unclear as to whether the victim died at the scene or in the hospital.

The young man has since been charged with manslaughter and suspicion of DUI.
