Orange County Labor Day DUI Statistics Announced

Following the Labor Day holiday, authorities in Orange County revealed that they made more than 600 DUI arrests during a three week period.
From August 20th until September 6th, officers say they arrested 665 people on suspicion of driving under the influence through checkpoints and also saturation patrols. The Labor Day campaign, which was carried out by the anti-DUI task force known as "Avoid the 38" is comprised of members from the Sheriff's Department, local police department and the California Highway Patrol.
Police say that during their maximum enforcement period from September 3rd until September 6th, they made 56 arrests. Last year, officers arrested 73 people for DUI over the Labor Day holiday weekend.
Statewide, 1,521 DUI arrested were made during the maximum enforcement period. Last year, the number was 1,417. Additionally, police report there was a significant jump in traffic related deaths as 21 people were killed throughout the state over Labor Day weekend compared to 12 in 2009.
