Multiple DUI Offender Sentenced with 15 Years to Life

In the city of Sacramento, a woman age 34 was sentenced to 15 years to life in jail.  Her sentence came about after she was charged with DUI and for causing a fatal DUI accident.

According to the Sacramento Bee, Rebecca Vela was sentenced with imprisonment on Wednesday after she was convicted in September of gross negligence, second-degree murder, vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence with prior convictions.

State prosecutors said that the defendant rear ended a motorcycle while attempting to change lanes in April 2009.  The rider on the motorcycle, 54-year-old Stanley Spaeth Jr., was thrown from his bike and died at the scene of the accident.

Reporters say that this is Vela's fifth drunk driving offense as she has been charged with previous DUI crimes between 1994 and 2000.
