Man Gets Charged with DUI and Felony Hit and Run

Last week Friday, police in Santa Maria arrested a man for suspicion of driving under the influence after he was involved in a hit and run accident on Highway 166 during early morning hours.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the 27-year-old suspect was driving a pickup truck near Hanson Way when he started to drift into the opposite lane and sideswiped another car.  The suspect's truck then hit an SUV head-on and the impact of the crash forced the suspect's vehicle into a PG&E power pole.

Instead of remaining at the scene of the accident, police say that the man left his truck and fled the scene on foot. Officers were able to locate him later on near A Street while he was attempting to walk home.  Police arrested the man for suspicion of DUI and felony hit and run.  At this time, they have not released his name and say that the other drivers involved in the accident suffered moderate injuries.
