Man Causes DUI Accident and Flees Scene

This week, while officers from the California Highway Patrol responded to an accident in Santa Rosa, they ended up arresting a local man for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Officers from the CHP responded to a report of a crash near Bennett Valley Road.  When they arrived at the scene, they found a Toyota pickup truck resting on its left side and blocking the road.  A few blocks away, they found the pickup truck driver walking down Holland Drive. He was then detained by police.

Later, officers identified the driver as 23-year-old Brandon Cheney of Santa Rosa.  Initially, Cheney told police that his truck was stolen and that he was chasing it on foot.  However, it was later revealed that Cheney was operating the pickup truck at the time of the crash and he was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

Cheney has two prior DUI convictions as well as convictions for driving with a suspended license and street racing.
