Attorney Appeals Client's $7 Million Bail in DUI Case
In Stockton, California, the defense attorney representing a man from San Joaquin County who has been charged in a fatal driving under the influence accident is currently appealing his client's bail amount, which is $7 million.
Charles Pacheco, the defense lawyer, said that the bail amount set for 30 year old Benjamin Serratos is excessive and unreasonable.
According to the Stockton Record, Superior Court Judge Franklin Stephenson ordered the $7 million bail amount following the June 12th DUI accident. The judge said that he believed Serratos is a danger to the community.
Serratos was allegedly driving drunk when he crashed into another vehicle and killed the driver, 18-year-old Destanee Little, and injured two of her passengers.
The California Highway Patrol reports that Serratos had a prior DUI conviction, so this would not be his first offense.
