New Year's Eve DUI Arrests Increase in Orange County
Orange County saw an increase in DUI arrests over New Year's Eve. According to CHP officer Denise Quesada, 69 drivers were arrested for
driving under the influence
in areas patrolled by the CHIP from 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 through 12 a.m. on January 3. Luckily, there were no DUI-related deaths reported anywhere in the county during that period. Last New Year's Eve, 59 people were cited for DUI and one person was killed.
Statewide there was a decrease in DUI arrests. CHP officials made 1,388 arrests between 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve and 12 a.m. Sunday. Last year there were 1,456 DUI arrests made during this same period. There were 36 traffic deaths around the holiday, with 24 of those arrests in CHP jurisdiction.
