Hit and Run Offender Arrested for Suspicion of DUI

In Hemet, police say that a man was arrested for driving under the influence after he crashed into another motor vehicle head-on and then fled the scene of the accident.

The suspect, 18-year-old James Ray Brennan, was reportedly driving south on Winchester Rd. at Simpson Road during the early morning hours when he slammed into a vehicle and drove away. His arrest was reported by a California Highway Patrol dispatcher.

The CHP reports that the woman who was driving the other car as not having sustained any injuries.

Shortly after the accident, the suspect called the Riverside County Sheriff's Department and told them that he was the victim of two carjackings.  It is reported that Brennan called the Sheriff's Department several times, but had no clear message and hung up without finishing the conversation.

A few hours later, police were able to track him down when he was walking on Winchester Road. Brennan was booked at the Southwest detention center on suspicion of drunk driving and hit-and-run.
